Source Says Nationals Looking At Outfield Gerardo Parra

Just because the Diamondbacks don't think Gerardo Parra is good enough to play every day doesn't mean that nobody else does. Think. That.

Feb 25, 2012 - When the Arizona Diamondbacks signed DH Jason Kubel this winter, it seemed like a really good move except for the Diamondbacks rarely getting to use a DH in their games, which means that Kubel will routinely be playing left field for the Diamondbacks while ex-left fielder Gerardo Parra routinely watches Kubel not making defensive plays from the bench.

Hey, it takes all kinds. But it seems that at least one other team thinks more of Parra than the Diamondbacks. MLB.com's Bill Ladson:

The Nationals are still looking for help in the outfield and they have expressed interest in D-backs outfielder Gerardo Parra, according to a baseball source.

--snip--

The left-handed-hitting Parra can play all three outfield positions. If he were to join the Nationals, he could be the team's center fielder, which is his worst defensive position.

Well, sure. Center field is a lot of guys' worst defensive position. But Parra is a) fast, and b) his numbers in the corner outfield spots are excellent. He's got only 363 innings in center field, and my guess is that his sub-par numbers there are largely a statistical fluke. If I needed a center fielder, I would be perfectly comfortable giving Parra an extended try-out. Though if Bryce Harper makes the Nationals' Opening Day roster, they won't need a center fielder because presumably Jayson Werth's going to slide there, with Harper in right and Michael Morse in left. Unless they dump Adam LaRoche and move Mike Morse from left field to first base and Werth from right to left which would open up center for Parra which would probably make the Nationals about as good as they can be but now we're just piling fantasies atop wishes and we know what that leads to.

Chaos.

Or, sometimes, a division title. Maybe.

The article in question suggested John Lannan perhaps going the other way

Which makes perfect sense, because Arizona are looking for a pitcher to shore up the #8 spot in their rotation.

Oh, wait…

Hahahahahahaha!

And would they let him hit eighth, too?

Maybe

that’s the plan. Have a 162 pitcher rotation!

Well, they are four deep in left field now anyway

It's funny, because Lannan routinely puts up 180-200 IP and a sub-4.00 ERA

But he’s getting crowded out of the Nationals’ rotation by four power arms and two pitchers with no minor league options. He may end up as the only $5 million pitcher in the International League.

He probably will be traded, I agree

But I sincerely doubt it’ll be to the D-backs, unless Kevin Towers’ fiendish plan to dominate the NL West by acquiring every single starting pitcher in baseball…

No. Just no.

Never ever ever in a million years. I’ll give ’em Kubel though if they want him.

Never ever ever in a million years trade a player on your bench?

You guys. You lollygag the ball around the infield. You lollygag your way down to first. You lollygag in and out of the dugout. You know what that makes you? Larry!
