David Aardsma, Still First Among Major League Players, Signs With Yankees

The former Mariners righthander tops an all-time list in which he might never be challenged.

Feb 22, 2012 - Though he hasn't revealed his intentions when his contract is up at the end of 2012, Yankees closer Mariano Rivera has strongly hinted that he's going to retire when the upcoming season is over. Never fear, Yankee fans! Mo's replacement could be at hand!

Jack Curry has the scoop:

Aardsma, the No. 1 pick of the Giants (22nd overall) in the 2003 draft, was the closer for the Mariners in 2009 and 2010, posting 69 saves in those two seasons. He turned 30 in December, so he still has time to recover from the TJ surgery and be a productive player. Blogging Bombers tweets:

Which means he's likely headed straight to the 60-day disabled list. In any event, he will remain first overall in the all-time alphabetical list of major league players, just ahead of Henry and Tommie Aaron.

Got a shot....

… but at 27, and playing in indy leagues, I think Aardsma’s record is safe for now.
