Feb 21, 2012 - With the Boston Red Sox receiving Chris Carpenter as compensation for allowing Theo Epstein out of his contract early to join the Chicago Cubs, room had to be made on the roster. The Red Sox have decided to create that space by placing Bobby Jenks on the 60-day disabled list. Jenks did not pitch after July 7 of last year and has undergone a couple surgeries in an attempt to fix some spinal issues.
To create a spot on 40-man roster for Carpenter, #RedSox place reliever Bobby Jenks on 60-day disabled list
— Scott Lauber (@ScottLauber) February 21, 2012
Jenks signed a two-year deal worth $12 million before last season, but it's starting to look unlikely that the Red Sox will get much in return on their investment. Bobby Valentine told the Boston Globe that Jenks has had a "terrible off-season health wise" and it's starting to look like the former star closer could be done as he hasn't even started baseball activities.
When he did pitch for the Red Sox last year, he was pretty awful. Jenks posted a 6.32 ERA and a 2.23 WHIP and blew his only two save chances. The 30-year-old is now three years removed from his last truly elite season, 2008 when he posted a 2.63 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and converted 30 of 34 save chances.

Jenks should thank John Lackey...
for making his horrible signing and performance with the Sox get lost in the shuffle.
$12 million for a reliever with a probable return of 0. Eek.
