The Giants signed Ramon Ortiz to a minor league contract, with an invitation to spring training.
Ramon Ortiz used to be known as “Little Pedro” because of similarities to Pedro Martinez. It never bothered anyone that Ramon Ortiz is taller than Pedro Martinez.
Ortiz has a 4.93 ERA in 1,423 career innings. Martinez had a 2.93 ERA in 2,827⅓ career innings. In order to lower his ERA to 2.93, Ortiz would have to throw 970 consecutive innings without an earned run.

If he does, the Giants should be pretty good.
