Baseball On Par With Other Professional Sports In Dealing With Bad Umpires - May 20
by Jeff Sullivan • Feb 10, 2012 2:06 PM EST
You remember the 2003 Detroit Tigers. They were the really bad Detroit Tigers, in between the bad Detroit Tigers and the mediocre Detroit Tigers. They went 43-119. They started 1-17. I’ve been staring at the Baseball-Reference page for a while.
Just how bad were they, if that record isn’t indicative enough? As a team, they had an 83 OPS+. That is the same as Marlon Anderson’s career OPS+. And as a team, they had an 81 ERA+. That is the same as Rob Bell’s career ERA+.
