One year ago today, I wrote my last piece for ESPN.com, which had been my home for a long time. Exactly that same day, I was launched into a completely unrelated personal crisis that left me in a depressive, sleep-deprived, generally food-free state for about three months.
I'm lucky. I've got a thousand friends who were there whenever I needed babysitting, and apparently I'm not predisposed to chronic depression. So eventually I came out of it, and learned a hell of a lot in the process. Still learning, actually.
I can't really recommend quitting a great job and feeling like your life's been destroyed all at once. But so far it's actually worked out pretty well for me.
(thanks to Lone Star Ball for the reminder)

Onward
Glad to hear that things are working out well, and may year two be even better. For what it’s worth, whatever you were going through in your personal life didn’t show through on this side of the computer screen, as you seemed as professional as ever.
BTW The Hall of the Amazing was a great idea. Are you prevented from continuing it over here?

Wing of Amazing!
No, I can keep doing it. In fact, didn’t I run another installment a week or two ago?
A little help…

thanks
Rob – Going through a bit of an non-work-related personal crisis myself. Glad you came out of it intact. If it helps at all, over the past year, and for many years past, your writing has brought many fans a great amount of pleasure. If things get dark again, I urge you to try to keep that in mind. Thanks for all of the great writing. Keep it coming.

Love your work on SBN
I always enjoyed your writing on ESPN, but I feel like your work has gotten even better since you jumped to SBN. The Live-Blogging of “For Love Of The Game” was hilarious, though I have to say that bad Costner movies were all we Tigers fans had going for us back in 1999.
Keep up the great work!
