Jan 27, 2012 - Via tweet from Jon Heyman, we learn of the former Cardinal, Dodger and Cub infielder Ryan Theriot's new team:
ryan theriot in agreement with #giants on 1 yr deal. gives them good veteran ss option.
As a Cubs fan, Theriot conjures up many images for me, most of them unpleasant. The acronym TOOTBLAN was coined to describe Theriot's adventures on the basepaths; it has its own Urban Dictionary entry and stands for "Thrown Out On The Bases Like A Nincompoop", which happened far too often in Theriot's Cubs days.
This was recognized by Jay Jaffe:
welcome to TOOTBLAN hell, Giants.
And, this tweet notes a reunion for Theriot:
Who will join with Mike Fontenot to form Voltron, the robot made of grit RT @mlbtraderumors Giants To Sign Ryan Theriot
Theriot and Fontenot were teammates at LSU and also with the Cubs, and formed what Cubs fans termed the "Cajun Connection" for the 2008 team which won 97 games before flopping in the playoffs.
Hey, who am I to talk. Theriot isn't a great player, but he has played in three postseasons and now has a World Series ring. He must be doing something right.

I thought the Giants were at their payroll limit
But I guess they can use another mediocre middle infielder.
