White Sox Throwbacks, And A Quiz

The White Sox announced Wednesday that they'll be wearing throwback uniforms from the 1972 season, a year in which Dick Allen won the AL MVP award, for 13 Sunday home games in 2012. They'll look like this:

On the right is new Sox manager Robin Ventura. On the left is... well, I don't know. He's wearing Paul Konerko's No. 14, but that's obviously not Konerko.

If you know who the smiling fellow on the left is, post the answer in the comments.

He kind of hosts the pre and postgame shows on Comcast Sports Net.

Seriously?

That doesn’t look like Bill Melton to me. But OK, I’ll take your word for it.

No need to take my word for it.

What would be the joke?

That the White Sox are doing throwbacks? No, this is true.

I guess the joke would be that someone would look at number 14, and say

“Hey, that’s not Paul Konerko.” It would be a bad joke, but given your sense of humor, who knows.

The fact that you couldn’t be bothered to do the most basic of an internet search to find out who that is just another reason folks can’t understand why on Earth you get paid by SBN.

No, your lazy reporting is a joke.

Would have only took you 15 seconds to find out who it was with a google search.

Really now.

I know very well what Bill Melton looks like. I did not recognize him. But you all go right on ahead bashing me. Does it make you feel good?

Literally every source I found with the picture had Bill Melton's name right below it.

It was lazy. You have a history of not doing the research when it comes to non-Cubs articles and then making this exact response when you are called out on it. You’re a grown man. Learn to take criticism.

I received a press release with this photo, which was my source.

I missed the note on the release that said it was Melton. That is my fault. However, it is typical that whenever I miss something that has to do with the White Sox — which is occasional, not always — that Sox fans jump on me.

I’ll admit I have made errors on other articles here. All writers do it from time to time. I’m happy to admit I made a mistake here.

However, I’ll also note that there are fans of 28 other teams who read this site. There isn’t a single group of fans among the fanbases of those 28 teams who jump on me the way White Sox fans do.

Wow

As a non-White Sox and Cubs fan I can say that this is one of the biggest over reactions I’ve seen in a while.

I'm pretty sure thats not Robin Ventura.

That looks more like Mickey Morandini.

It came from afar and traveled sedately on, a shrug of eternity

Why is he wearing Jermaine Dye's jersey?
