Why We'll Miss Craig Counsell

Craig Counsell will be remembered for several things: being 2001 NLCS MVP, looking 16, helping Jose Mesa become the first pitcher in baseball history to blow a save in the bottom of the ninth inning of a World Series Game 7. And yes, going 0-for-45 last season.

But most of all, Counsell's batting stance was a work of art. He would often discard that art for a new piece, and after the jump we'll break down his effectiveness with each stance.

Counsell was amazing in so many ways

a 10.7 career BB% with a .089 career ISO has to be some sort of record

He's got nothing on Eddie Stanky:

18% BB rate, .080 ISO.

I actually just did a post on players like this: The Eddie Stanky All-Stars.

Chone Figgins

comes very close to those numbers.

Other guys with BB% > 10 ISO <.090:

Walt Weiss, Jose Oquendo, Gary Pettis, Brett Butler, Julio Cruz (he had wings on his shoes), Wally Backman, willie Randolph….

Notre Dame, weird eh?

Think Brad Lidge who also went there, said the coach was big on hands held as high as you could.

He will be missed.
