Phillies Beat Giants, Brawl Ruled A Draw

Aug 6, 2011 - So, Friday night in San Francisco there was a baseball game between two first-place teams and a hockey game broke out.

It was the top of the sixth inning, the Giants were already smarting because they were getting hammered at home by a clearly superior club, and then this happened:

For me, the highlight comes near the beginning when Eli Whiteside bounces around like Tigger (bouncy-clouncy-trouncy-pouncy-fun-fun-fun-fun-FUN). Unlike Tigger -- energetic as all hell, but the nicest animated (or plush) tiger you'd ever want to meet -- Whiteside was just itching for a scrap and he got one.

Without watching the video a few dozen times, it's impossible to know who threw punches and who didn't. But you can bet some people at Major League Baseball will be spend plenty of man-hours on this one. You can also bet that Shane Victorino's going to be fined and perhaps suspended for a few games, since if he'd just taken his base all of this ugliness would have been avoided. Especially since he tried to push his way through umpire Mike Muchlinski.

Ramon Ramirez probably gets suspended too, for plunking Victorino with some apparent intention.

Just before Ramirez nailed Victorino, Jimmy Rollins had stolen second base with the Phillies ahead by six runs. Ah, those unwritten rules ...
