Zack Cozart Injury: Reds Rookie Shortstop Leaves Game Elbow Injury

Cincinnati Reds rookie shortstop Zack Cozart left Saturday's matchup with the Atlanta Braves clutching his elbow after attempting to tag-out Nate McLouth in the fourth inning. Cozart reached down to apply the tag at second, only to have his left elbow bent in an awkward angle, leaving him on the ground in obvious pain. Trainers attended to the Reds' youngster, and he was removed from the game.

Cozart has been solid for the Reds since receiving a call-up on July 7, just before the All-Star break. He hit safely in his first seven games, finally snapping the streak on Tuesday, and was batting .353. After two hitless games, though, Cozart bounced back on Friday, going 1-4 with a solo home run against the Braves.

With Cozart out due to the elbow injury, Edgar Renteria entered the game as a replacement on Saturday. It's unknown if Cozart will be out for an extended period of time or what the extent of his injury is at this time.

We'll be back with more on Cozart's injury as it becomes available in this StoryStream. For more on the Cozart and the Reds, visit SB Nation's Red Reporter.
