MLB Trade Rumors: Brewers Interested In Jamey Carroll

Buster Olney twote that the Brewers are interested in Jamey Carroll. I know what you're thinking. No one cares about this rumor. But this is the one you should latch onto if you want to look smart. Tell your friends that Carroll will go to the Brewers. Do it loudly and often, Then when Carroll is traded to the Brewers, you'll look like a wizard. Carroll getting traded to the Milwaukee Brewers makes too much sense. Check out his relevant stats:

  • He has a .360 on-base percentage (tied, 26th in NL)
  • He is not Yuniesky Betancourt (tied, 1st in MLB in not being Yuniesky Betancourt)

Carroll plays shortstop, which is the position of need for the Brewers. Betancourt, by the way, has the second-worst on-base percentage among qualified National League hitters. This is the most obvious move a contender can make. The Dodgers can save a few hundred grand. The Brewers won't have to give up a top prospect, which they don't have anyways.

So this isn't a rumor. This is a spoiler. Even though Tom Haudricourt says there's nothing "hot" right now, there aren't any teams who could use a shortstop more than the Brewers. Well, except for the Reds and Pirates, maybe. Who play in the same division.

Okay, maybe you should hold off on the custom Jamey Carroll jersey, Milwaukee. As rumors go, though, it makes way more sense than most of the ones you'll read.
