Julio Teheran Called Up By Braves
The Atlanta Braves played a doubleheader against the Milwaukee Brewers this past week, which made their rotation all cattywampus. Without reinforcements, the Braves would have had to pitch Tommy Hanson on Sunday on short rest against the NL East-leading Philadelphia Phillies. Enter super-prospect Julio Teheran. From MLB.com's Mark Bowman:
So the Braves will give Jurrjens a little extra rest -- not a bad idea considering his history of injuries -- and get their top prospect up to the majors. Teheran turned 20 in January, and he was the big international splash in 2007, when the Braves signed him out of Colombia. He started in low-A last year before climbing up to AA, throwing well at each stop.
Generated 5/6/2011.
He's usually in the 95-MPH range with his fastball, and he also features a plus curve and change, according to the Baseball America Prospect Handbook. Starting against the Phillies isn't exactly the lightest assignment in the world, but it should be fun to watch on Saturday.
