David Wright Injury: Mets Third Baseman Placed On DL With Back Fracture

We learned on Monday that Mets third baseman David Wright had a stress fracture in his back, resulting from a diving attempt to tag Carlos Lee back in April. The Mets were hesitant to place Wright on the disabled list right away, but on Tuesday, they made the expected move.

The plan now is for Wright to rest for about a week and a half before resuming baseball activities. With such a long break, it didn't make sense to keep him on the active roster. The expectation is that he'll be well enough to return within two or three weeks, although with injuries of this nature you can never be certain.

Nick Evans has been recalled to take Wright's place on the roster. Evans has batted just .248 in the early going with AAA Buffalo, but also has 225 plate appearances worth of decent Major League experience. But Evans figures as a utility infielder. Before Tuesday night's game was postponed, Ruben Tejada was in the lineup at second base, with Justin Turner shifting to third. And Willie Harris figures to be in the mix at third base, too.
