Jesus Montero Injury Sidelines Yankees' Prospect

Jesus Montero, a catcher in the New York Yankees' organization, is one of the very best hitting prospects in the game, and he is off to a scalding start in AAA Scranton/Wilkes Barre, with 24 hits in his first 59 at-bats. Even the best young prospects, though, can be expected to go though some groin pains.

Ahem.

Montero had to leave a game on Sunday after taking a pitch off his protective cup. The injury and pain is severe enough that the Yankees are sending him in for an MRI to determine if there is unseen damage. The pain isn't limited to the, uh, specific area where the ball struck, either:

(Montero) said he’s still in some significant pain — both in his stomach area and in the area around where he was hit. He said, with a smile, that this particular incident is one he would like to never relive.

Yikes.
