Boston vs. Chicago: A Field Guide For Theo Epstein

Provided by Cubs fans as a service to Theo Epstein, so he can focus on the important stuff.

Oct 13, 2011 - As someone who lived in Boston for several years and now lives on the Cubs/Cards Mason-Dixon line in downstate Illinois, I feel I'm in a unique position to help Theo Epstein transition to his new job as GM of the Chicago Cubs. With that in mind, I made this handy chart of people, places, and things Mr. Epstein encountered every day in Boston and their equivalents in Chicago—or, as the natives call it, Rum City.*

* I heard that once.

I'm pretty sure I'm missing the joke, because Chicago actually has several high-caliber institutions of higher learning.

Northwestern and the University of Chicago aren’t exactly asylums for the criminally insane.
And screw Jim Belushi, at least go ahead and cite our current asshole celebrity, Kanye.

To my knowledge, certain things were not known.

Also, if listing a Cardinal of the Church is in the category of cult leader, then I'd swap

Oprah for Ditka. I feel this works a little better since Oprah has the political/money connects to be paired with JFK.

You must mean post-1995 U of C.

Funny, but Grunge?

Grunge? That’s not from Boston, wrong coast.

Zydeco?

I think living in downstate Illinois gives one the unique position of knowing what it feels like to want to live somewhere else.
